First time using Fiverr for help on projects
I want to start making bigger projects. In my post about the TV-muting-robot-hand, I stated that I don’t have any Rasperrry Pi or Arduino skills. Someone replied to me saying why don’t I just use Upwork or Fiverr.
Freelancing services have always appealed to me as a way to scale up a project. I’ve spent chunks of time scrolling through different categories of services thinking “wow so many options for hiring talented people!”.
When it came to actually using Upwork or Fiverr, I’d freeze up and think “well this project isn’t the right fit” or “maybe I can just learn this new skill and do it myself” or “what if the effort to make the requirements and integrate the freelancers work isn’t worth it.”
These questions are all valid, but I’m a little tired of cycling through reasons why not to try it out. So in the spirit of starting small, I decided to use Fiverr for a fun little project: making a cover of “Never Look Back” by Run the Jewels using studio musicians that I hire.
I love music and have dabbled in production and drums, but the extent of my guitar skills is playing Smoke on the Water. This project is less about the output and more about overcoming the mental barrier of creating something that I didn’t personally make.
Breakdown of the project:
Find cost effective studio musicians for drums and guitar.
Hire them and send requirements (I sent the youtube video of the song and asked them to play over it)
Overlaid the tracks that the musicians sent me with an acapella track that I extracted using Spleeter.
I hope you enjoy a preview of the track. And I hope you find this useful if you need a nudge to stop overthinking and start doing.
